Model History and Information: The C8A was an 8-hundredweight, four-wheel-drive Heavy Utility truck built by General Motors of Canada within the Canadian Military Pattern range, standardized trucks made to British specifications for Canadian and Commonwealth forces during World War II. Following British practice, these Canadian-built vehicles used right-hand drive, and most Chevrolet examples were powered by a 216-cubic-inch overhead-valve straight-six. The CMP family was highly versatile, spanning some ninety vehicle types on twelve chassis, including wireless, personnel-carrying and dedicated ambulance bodies. Fitted with an enclosed body, the light 4x4 chassis suited utility and casualty-evacuation duties, carrying wounded and medical staff over the difficult terrain of North African, Italian and North-West European campaigns.
