Sikorsky CH-53E Sea Stallion HMX-1, Number 31, 1:72 Scale
Product Dimensions: 16.51 x 13.17 x 4.63 in.
Model History and Information: This 1:72 scale model depicts a Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion, the U.S. Marine Corps' heavy-lift helicopter, marked for Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), Number 31. Formed in 1947, HMX-1 is based at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, and has held sole responsibility for presidential helicopter transport since 1976. The CH-53E, fitted with a third engine not found on the earlier CH-53D and one of the largest helicopters in Western military service, served HMX-1 in a logistics and support role rather than carrying the President directly, moving staff, equipment and the press pool alongside the squadron's VH-3D and VH-60N executive aircraft. HMX-1 retired its CH-53E fleet, replaced by the MV-22B Osprey, by 2017.
