Model History and Information: The third-generation Volkswagen Golf launched in August 1991 and brought the Golf's first six-cylinder engine, the VR6. Volkswagen Austria lists the Golf III VR6 under 1992 and describes the 128 kW (174 PS) six-cylinder as the most powerful engine offered for the model. The 2.8 litre engine displaces 2,792 cc. Volkswagen replaced the Golf III in 1997 after 4.8 million units had been produced. This version is finished in Tornado Red.
