Model History and Information: In 2023 Canada announced that it would acquire 88 F-35A fighters to begin replacing its CF-18 Hornet fleet. On 23 September 2026 the first aircraft built for Canada, construction number AR-1, made its maiden flight from the Lockheed Martin site at Fort Worth, Texas, wearing Royal Canadian Air Force markings and accompanied by an F-35C chase aircraft. It will be designated CF-35A in Canadian service. The first Canadian jets are planned to support pilot training at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, with the first arrival in Canada expected in 2028.
