Model History and Information: Dump trucks (tipper trucks) transport loose construction materials such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, demolition waste or excavated soil. Their open cargo body is hinged at the rear and lifted at the front by hydraulic rams, so the load can be tipped out onto the ground without being shovelled or unloaded by hand. This simple, high-capacity mechanism makes dump trucks one of the most common vehicles on building sites and in quarries, working alongside excavators and wheel loaders to move material from where it is dug to where it is needed, or away for disposal. Dump trucks range in size from manoeuvrable site vehicles like this one to the very large off-highway haul trucks used in open-pit mining.
