Model History and Information: The 911 Carrera RSR 2.8 was created for the 1973 season from the Carrera RS 2.7, as a prototype to comply with the FIA Group 4 regulations. Compared with the road car the changes were modest: the rear wheels were 50 millimetres wider, the flat-six was enlarged through bigger bores, and the ducktail gradually developed into a real rear wing. With a steel roll cage and a 120-litre fuel tank it still weighed around 900 kilograms, helped by plastic doors, front lid and side windows. Hurley Haywood and Peter Gregg won the 24 Hours of Daytona overall on its debut in February 1973. During that first season Porsche launched a three-litre version, and the RSR 2.8 became the progenitor of all Porsche RSR models.
