Model History and Information: The Alpine A110 combined a lightweight glassfibre body with a rear-mounted engine on a steel backbone chassis, a formula that made it dominant in European rallying at the turn of the 1970s. In 1600S specification it used a 1,565cc four-cylinder engine producing around 125 PS in a car that weighed only about 620 kg, giving it the power-to-weight advantage to beat larger, more powerful rivals. Works A110s took 1-2-3 finishes at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1971 and 1973, and Alpine won the inaugural World Rally Championship title in 1973. This model reproduces the blue, works-liveried No. 1 A110 1600S entered for the 1972 Monte Carlo Rally.
