Model History and Information: Peugeot launched the 205 Rallye in 1988 as a stripped-down, lightweight version of the standard 205 hatchback, sold as a cheaper, sportier alternative to the GTI in parts of mainland Europe, distinct from the mid-engined 205 Turbo 16 that had already won the 1985 and 1986 World Rally Championship titles. It reached a kerb weight of under 800 kg through a smaller 1.3-litre engine, plastic bumpers, steel wheels and reduced sound-deadening and equipment rather than a wide-body racing kit. This model represents the Rallye in Blanc Meije, one of the factory colours offered on the road-going car, without an event livery.
