Model History and Information: The Cat 308E2 CR SB is a compact-radius mini hydraulic excavator in the 8-ton class, distinguished from the plain 308E2 by its SB swing-boom front linkage, which lets the boom pivot to the side for digging alongside walls or in trenches without repositioning the machine. It was powered by a Cat C3.3B engine producing 65 hp at the flywheel, with top forward speeds of about 1.7 mph in low range and 3.2 mph in high, and it was the first machine in Caterpillar's Mini Hydraulic Excavator line to meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IIIB emissions. Its load-sensing, flow-sharing High Definition hydraulic system improved controllability and cut fuel use by up to 10 percent, and all E-Series models carried Caterpillar's COMPASS digital control panel.
