Model History and Information: Northwest Airlines, based in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, operated the Boeing 727-200 as a mainstay of its domestic network for many years. When Northwest acquired Republic Airlines in 1986, it took over Republic's fleet, including 727-200s, and many former Republic aircraft kept their original registrations after being repainted in Northwest colours. The three-engine 727-200 offered the range and capacity Northwest needed on its busy routes between the Midwest and cities across the country.
