Model History and Information: Ozark Air Lines was based in St. Louis and served a large network of cities across the American Midwest. It brought the Douglas DC-9 into its fleet in the mid-1960s, replacing piston and turboprop aircraft on routes radiating from its Lambert Field hub. The Series 10 DC-9 was designed for exactly that kind of flying: a compact rear-engined twin that could use short runways and turn around quickly with minimal ground equipment. Ozark flew the DC-9 for two decades, until the airline was acquired by Trans World Airlines in 1986 and merged into its St. Louis operation.
