Model History and Information: Pacific Southwest Airlines, based in San Diego, was a pioneer of low-fare intrastate flying in California and became famous for the smile painted on the nose of its aircraft. The Boeing 727 was central to PSA's operation, flying frequent shuttle-style services between cities such as San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The stretched 727-200 gave PSA more seats on those high-frequency routes. The airline was acquired by USAir in the late 1980s and merged into its operation.
