Model History and Information:The extended-range 767-200ER was offered within the type's first year of service and became the version that opened long overwater routes to twin-engine airliners, carrying more fuel and operating at higher weights than the base model. For Trans World Airlines, an operator whose identity had been built on transatlantic flying since the propeller era, the 767 offered a way to serve those markets with a smaller aircraft than the wide-bodies of the previous generation. The 767 was Boeing's first wide-body twinjet and the first of its airliners designed around a two-person flight deck.
