Model History and Information:United Airlines launched the Boeing 767 programme, ordering thirty aircraft with options on thirty-seven more in July 1978. The type entered service on 8 September 1982 on flight UA1767 between Chicago and Denver, powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7R4 engines. The 767 was Boeing's first wide-body twin and its first airliner with a two-crew glass cockpit, a configuration that reshaped how medium and long-haul fleets were staffed. The extended-range 767-200ER, offered within the type's first year in service, added fuel capacity and higher weights, and it was this version that opened long overwater twin-engine routes to operators around the world.
