Model History and Information: West Coast Airlines was a Seattle-based regional carrier that connected communities across Washington, Oregon, Idaho and neighbouring states. Like other local-service airlines of the period, it moved from propeller aircraft to jets with the Douglas DC-9 Series 10, a small twin designed for short stage lengths and smaller airports. In 1968 West Coast merged with Bonanza Air Lines and Pacific Air Lines to create Air West, bringing its DC-9s into the combined fleet that would later fly as Hughes Airwest.
