Model History and Information: Volkswagen showed the Golf Rallye at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show as a homologation special built to meet Group A's requirement of 5,000 identical road cars. Production ran at the Forest plant in Brussels between 1989 and 1991, pairing a supercharged 1.8-litre G60 engine, rated at 160 PS, with the Syncro four-wheel-drive system and widened, flared bodywork to cover a broader track. Unlike the works rally cars it was built to homologate, the production Rallye was sold as a plain street model without competition livery. This example reproduces the road-going Golf Rallye in Tornado Red.
