Model History and Information: The 1967 model year is among the most sought after of the air-cooled Beetle, because it combines the upright pre-1968 bodywork with a set of substantial technical improvements. Volkswagen enlarged the flat four to 1500 cc for 53 horsepower, raised the gearing and revised the rear suspension with a wider track, softer torsion bars and a transverse spring, which changed the way the car rode and handled more than any single previous update. A twelve-volt electrical system, dual-circuit brakes and an external fuel filler flap arrived the same year. The Beetle went on to become one of the most widely produced cars in history.
