Model History and Information: This 1:50 Diecast Masters model depicts a 40-foot dry goods sea container painted dark red and marked with tex, the logo of container lessor Textainer. Textainer has leased intermodal containers since 1979 and supplies standard dry freight, specialized and refrigerated containers to around 200 global customers, from an owned and managed fleet of 4.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units. Its general cargo containers come in 20-foot, 40-foot and 40-foot high cube sizes and use Corten steel construction. Standard dry containers of this kind have corrugated walls and cargo doors at one end, details reproduced on the replica. The container trade dates from April 26, 1956, when the converted tanker Ideal X left Port Newark with 58 containers.
