Model History and Information: The current Cat D5, launched in 2019 with a C7.1 engine to replace the D6N, is offered with a Variable Pitch Angle Tilt (VPAT) blade whose pitch and angle adjust hydraulically to suit different grading and dozing tasks, and in a Low Ground Pressure (LGP) configuration that widens and lengthens the tracks to spread the machine's weight on soft ground. Together, the LGP undercarriage and VPAT blade let the D5 work sites a standard blade and track combination would struggle to grade evenly.
