Model History and Information: Caterpillar has built the D7 medium dozer since 1938, and the D7C, introduced in 1955, was one of the early postwar generations in that line, preceding the D7D, D7F and D7G through the 1960s and 1970s. Like other D7s of its era, the D7C ran on a conventional, non-elevated track-drive undercarriage, a layout Caterpillar kept on the D7 until the elevated-sprocket D7H arrived in 1986. Valued for its pushing power on construction and land-clearing jobs, the D7C represents an earlier stage of the D7's long production history.
