Model History and Information: Great Dane started in Savannah, Georgia, in 1900 as the Savannah Blowpipe Company, making sheet metal ducting to move sawdust in mills, and grew into one of the largest trailer manufacturers in the world. Its product lines carry names rather than numbers: Champion for dry vans, Everest for refrigerated trailers and Freedom for flatbeds. The company built its largest plant at Brazil, Indiana, in 1974, acquired a reefer production line in Nebraska in 1988 and opened a further refrigerated trailer plant at Statesboro, Georgia, in 2010.
