Model History and Information: For 1970, Chevrolet introduced a 454 cu in (7.4 L) V8 for the Chevelle, available only with the SS equipment option (RPO Z15). The base 454 was rated at 360 bhp. The optional LS6 version used a single four-barrel 800 CFM Holley carburetor and produced 450 bhp at 5,600 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. A cowl induction hood was also offered with the 454 engine. Chevrolet built 4,475 Chevelles with the LS6 engine that year.
