Model History and Information: The Sea Harrier FA2 was the Royal Navy's final and most capable naval Harrier, entering Fleet Air Arm service in 1993. A comprehensive upgrade of the earlier FRS1, it introduced the Blue Vixen pulse-Doppler radar and beyond-visual-range AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles, turning the type into a genuine air-defence fighter for the fleet. It retained a strike capability and could carry the Sea Eagle anti-ship missile against surface targets. Flown by 800 and 801 Naval Air Squadrons from Invincible-class carriers, FA2s also featured at air displays including the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford. The type was withdrawn from Royal Navy service in March 2006, leaving the fleet without an organic fixed-wing fighter for years afterward.
