Model History and Information: Carroll Shelby's Cobra began with the British AC Ace roadster fitted with a Ford V8. To answer growing competition, Shelby developed the larger 427 Cobra for the 1965 season around Ford's 427-cubic-inch V8 and a new chassis with coil springs at all four wheels. The Shelby American Collection distinguishes the 427 S/C from full competition and street versions, recording the S/C as a separate group within the original production run. The Henry Ford museum places Shelby American's Cobra production across the 1962 to 1967 model years. The 427 designation therefore identifies a family with several period specifications.
