Model History and Information: The Cat 12M is a versatile motor grader used for road building, grading, and finishing work, and the M3 update carried the model to Caterpillar's third-generation M Series platform. M3 graders are powered by a Cat C9.3 ACERT engine, a 9.3-liter, six-cylinder unit Caterpillar rates at a base power around 179 hp (133 kW), rising within Caterpillar's variable-horsepower range as blade load increases. The line meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emission standards and uses an eight-speed forward, six-speed reverse powershift transmission with electronic control to smooth gear changes.
