Model History and Information: The Marine Corps asked in October 1967 for a helicopter that could lift almost twice what the CH-53D managed and still fit aboard an amphibious warfare ship. Sikorsky had already been working on the answer: take the Sea Stallion, add a third turboshaft engine, add a seventh blade to the main rotor and cant the tail rotor twenty degrees. The result first flew in 1974 and entered service in 1981. The third engine is what lets it work in hot and high conditions that leave twin-engine helicopters without the lift to do the job, and the type is planned to serve into the 2030s. The configuration and markings represented are: CH-53E BuNo 163075, HMH-366 Hammerheads, Exercise Trident Juncture, Vinnu, Norway, November 2018.
