Model History and Information: Before the StuG III became Germany's most numerous armoured fighting vehicle, it was a tightly defined infantry-support weapon. The Ausf. A used the Panzer III chassis and a low, fixed superstructure mounting the 7.5 cm StuK 37. Thirty production vehicles, plus the earlier pilot series, went to units in 1940. Their purpose was to engage bunkers and gun positions by direct fire, which explains the short howitzer-style barrel. The LAH straw-grass treatment is a collector configuration; it should not be read as proof of a unique wartime camouflage order.
