Model History and Information: The Cat 777D is an off-highway rigid mining truck rated at a nominal payload of about 100 tons (90.4 tonnes), a mainstay hauler in mines and large quarries. It is powered by a Cat 3508B EUI diesel engine delivering 1,000 hp (746 kW) gross and 938 hp (699 kW) net at 1,750 rpm, paired with a seven-speed power-shift transmission that includes a lock-up torque converter for maximum rimpull and smooth shifting. Its body holds 78.6 cubic yards (60.1 cubic meters) heaped at SAE 2:1, sized to reach rated payload with typical material densities around 2,900 lb per bank cubic yard. Caterpillar built the 777D for high-production, low-cost-per-ton hauling in mining and quarry operations.
