Model History and Information: The A-4K was the version of the Douglas Skyhawk built for the Royal New Zealand Air Force. After evaluating other types during the 1960s, New Zealand ordered fourteen Skyhawks, and in 1970 ten single-seat A-4Ks and four two-seat TA-4Ks were delivered, equipping No. 75 Squadron. Early modifications included a distinctive cranked aerial refuelling probe that replaced the original straight unit. Through the 1970s the aircraft flew a range of overseas deployments and exercises, several tied to ANZUS commitments, giving the small air arm a modern strike and training capability. New Zealand later rebuilt additional airframes to A-4K standard, and the type remained in RNZAF service until the combat force was disbanded in 2001.
