Model History and Information: XR726 was built as an English Electric Lightning F.6 in late 1964 and made its first flight in June 1965. The aircraft spent much of its RAF career with No.5 Squadron, one of two Lightning units based at RAF Binbrook, and during a deployment to RAF Leconfield in May 1973 it wore the natural metal finish reproduced on this model. Over its service life the airframe carried several of the camouflage schemes applied to Lightning interceptors before the type was retired from RAF service in 1988.
