Model History and Information: This 1:48 scale Aviation Archive model replicates Bristol F.2B Fighter C4636, which served with RAF No.39 Squadron on Home Defence duties against German night raiders over southern England in 1918. On the night of 19/20 May 1918, 19-year-old Lieutenant Anthony Arkell, flying his eleventh home-defence sortie, intercepted a Gotha G.V bomber over Hainault Forest at 10,000ft. Positioning his aircraft beneath the bomber, Arkell fired around 700 rounds into its belly over roughly fifteen minutes until it caught fire, crashing in East Ham. It was No.39 Squadron's only confirmed victory over a Gotha night raider and earned Arkell the Military Cross. The aircraft, nicknamed 'Devil-in-the-Dusk', carried muted markings developed for night-fighting operations.
