Model History and Information: One of the oldest squadrons in Marine aviation, the Ace of Spades was established in 1919 and adopted the AV-8B Harrier II in 1985. Based at MCAS Cherry Point within the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, it has served in conflicts from the Second World War through the Balkans and Iraq. Forward-deployed to the US Central Command region, the squadron supported Operation Inherent Resolve, the coalition campaign against the Islamic State. Its Harriers flew close air support and deep strike sorties, contributing to the fight for Mosul across Iraq and Syria, logging hundreds of strikes over thousands of flight hours before the type's later withdrawal from Marine service.
