Model History and Information: This play set packs a miniature Cat 315D L hydraulic excavator in a Cat-branded plastic tool box together with a bag of play sand and red barrier pieces, and the box label identifies it as a Micro Play Set with surprise tools. The machine behind it is a small hydraulic excavator that Caterpillar presented with increased horsepower, improved controllability and a redesigned operator station. According to Caterpillar, the Cat C4.2 engine in the 315D L delivered five percent more power than the previous engine, and a boom and stick regeneration circuit saved energy when the boom was lowered or the stick pulled in. Work mode and power mode switches were eliminated, leaving full power available at all times.
