Model History and Information: Inside this Cat-branded plastic tool box is a miniature yellow Cat 420E backhoe loader with a black loader arm and bucket, plus a bag of play sand and red barrier pieces; the box label calls it a Micro Play Set with surprise tools. Caterpillar produced the real 420E as a center-pivot backhoe loader in 420E and 420E IT versions. The manufacturer pointed to standard pilot-operated joystick controls, a more comfortable operator station, an extendible stick and increased performance. On the 420E IT, the optional integrated toolcarrier loader linkage provides higher breakout forces and parallel lift for loading and material handling and works with a wide range of Cat Work Tools for a variety of applications.
