Model History and Information: Citroën unveiled the 2CV at the Paris Motor Show on 7 October 1948. The brief called for a low-priced, rugged car, an umbrella on four wheels, able to carry four people and 50 kg of farm goods to market while using no more than 3 L/100 km. Series production began in summer 1949. The first Type A used an air-cooled 375 cc flat-twin of 9 hp, and the name refers to a French tax rating rather than power output. Output rose from 876 cars in 1949 to 6,196 in 1950, and delivery times initially reached up to six years. The last 2CV was built on 27 July 1990 in Portugal.
