Model History and Information: Caterpillar introduced the D11R at MINExpo in Las Vegas in 1996, succeeding the D11N as the company's largest bulldozer. The D11R added fingertip controls and electronic clutch-and-brake steering, letting the operator steer the machine with small finger clutches, and its output rose from 770 to 850 horsepower in 1997; operating weight reached about 230,935 pounds. Built with the same elevated-sprocket, high-drive undercarriage as the rest of the D11 line, the D11R was used for high-production dozing and ripping in surface mines.
