Douglas™ AC-47 Gunship, 'Spooky 71', Vietnam 1969
Product Dimensions: 10.63 x 15.75 x 2.83 in.
Model History and Information: The Douglas AC-47 transformed the C-47 Skytrain into a fixed-wing gunship for close air support during the Vietnam War. This 1:72 scale release depicts Spooky 71, serial 43-49770, whose crew was called to support troops at Long Binh on February 24, 1969. A mortar hit tore into the aircraft's right wing and scattered shrapnel through the cabin. During the attack, Airman First Class John Levitow prevented a live flare from detonating inside the aircraft, an action for which he received the Medal of Honor. Despite the damage, the crew returned the gunship safely to base.
