Model History and Information: Ferdinand was built from ninety-one Porsche Tiger hulls left over after the Henschel design won the Tiger contract. Its long 8.8 cm Pak 43/2 gave it extraordinary range and penetration, while the 65-ton chassis made recovery and close infantry protection difficult. Eighty-nine went into the Kursk offensive in July 1943, where mines, breakdowns and infantry attacks exposed those weaknesses. Surviving vehicles were rebuilt with a bow machine gun and other changes, then renamed Elefant. The Poland and unit wording identifies the edition, not a separately documented vehicle.
