Model History and Information: VF-41, the Black Aces, was one of the early U.S. Navy F-14 squadrons and operated from the carrier USS Nimitz. In 1978 the Tomcat was still a relatively new fleet-defence fighter, valued for its radar, Phoenix missile system and variable-sweep wings. BuNo 160388 in VF-41 markings represents that early operational period, when the type was still establishing itself as the Navy's primary carrier interceptor before later strike and reconnaissance roles were added to its mission.
