Product Dimensions: 10.46 x 10.69 x 2.68 in.
Model History and Information: On 19 August 1981 two F-14s of the Black Aces, flying combat air patrol from USS Nimitz over the Gulf of Sidra, were engaged by two Libyan Su-22s. Libya claimed the whole gulf as territorial water, a claim the United States rejected, and the fleet was conducting freedom of navigation operations there. One of the Libyan aircraft fired a missile at close range and missed; the Tomcat crews, cleared by rules of engagement that allowed self-defence, manoeuvred behind their opponents and shot both down with Sidewinders. It was the first combat engagement of the F-14 in American service.
