It first flew on 21 December 1970, entered fleet service in 1974 with two Pratt \u0026amp; Whitney TF30 turbofans, and 712 Tomcats were built between 1969 and 1991. VF-84, the Jolly Rogers, moved to the F-14A in early 1976 and was disestablished on 1 October 1995, when VF-103 adopted its name and insignia.
