Model History and Information: The Diamondbacks began a scheduled deployment to the Arabian Sea on 19 September 2001, eight days after the attacks on New York and Washington, and went straight into combat operations. Flying the F-14B, which the squadron had received in 1994, they logged five thousand combat hours and dropped 680 bombs, and guided more than fifty thousand pounds of precision munitions released by other aircraft: more ordnance and more combat hours than any other Tomcat unit in that campaign. The battle group stayed at sea for 159 consecutive days, breaking a twenty-year-old record.
