Model History and Information: NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center at Edwards, California, has flown F-15 Eagles for decades, both as research testbeds and as chase aircraft supporting the flight testing of other experimental aircraft. This model depicts a NASA F-15 in special 'Freedom 250' markings celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. The F-15 was designed by McDonnell Douglas as an air superiority fighter and first flew in 1972; its high thrust-to-weight ratio and large wing also made it an ideal platform for flight research.
