Model History and Information: The 306th Tactical Fighter Squadron was formed on 1 December 1981 with the F-4EJ and converted to the F-15J in 1997, the last of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's original Eagle squadrons to do so. It belongs to the 6th Air Wing at Komatsu, on the Sea of Japan coast, and its aircraft carry a golden eagle on the fin inside a stylised numeral six for the wing. The unit stands quick reaction alert, the duty that scrambles fighters against unidentified traffic approaching Japanese airspace, and it marked its fortieth anniversary in 2021 with a commemorative scheme applied to one of its aircraft.
