Model History and Information: The Slovak Republic ordered 14 F-16 Block 70/72 aircraft to replace its retired MiG-29 fleet, becoming the first European operator of this most advanced Fighting Falcon variant. The single-seat jet carrying tail 1001 was the first of the batch; it made its maiden flight from Lockheed Martin's Greenville, South Carolina plant on 29 September 2023 and was formally handed over at a delivery ceremony on 29 February 2024. The Block 70 introduces the APG-83 AESA radar, an advanced mission computer and structural improvements that extend airframe service life. Slovak Vipers are based at Kuchyna (Malacky) and are assigned to national defence and NATO air-policing tasks.
