Model History and Information: Belgium selected the F-35A in October 2018 to replace its aging F-16 fleet, contracting for 34 aircraft. Florennes Air Base is designated as the first Belgian F-35 operating location, with No. 1 Squadron becoming the first Belgian unit to fly the type; the first Belgian F-35As arrived in 2025. The aircraft support Belgium's NATO commitments, including a nuclear role transitioning from Kleine Brogel's F-16s. The type brings stealth, sensor fusion and coalition data-sharing to the Belgian Air Component.
