Model History and Information: Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 225, the Vikings, is a United States Marine Corps unit based at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, under Marine Aircraft Group 13 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. Tracing its lineage to 1943, the squadron flew Corsairs, Skyhawks and Hornets before conducting its final F/A-18D flight in January 2020 and formally transitioning to the F-35B on 29 January 2021. The B is the short-takeoff and vertical-landing variant, using a shaft-driven lift fan for expeditionary and shipboard operations. As a fifth-generation stealth strike fighter, it gives the Vikings sensor fusion, networked situational awareness and multirole strike capability from austere sites and amphibious decks.
