Model History and Information: The Imperial Iranian Air Force was an early and major foreign customer for the Freedom Fighter, receiving its first eleven F-5As and two F-5Bs in February 1965 and declaring them operational that June. Iran ultimately took delivery of more than a hundred F-5As and over twenty F-5Bs by 1972, using them to build a modern jet fighter force and to train crews later transitioning to the F-5E Tiger II and F-4 Phantom. The single-seat F-5A equipped fighter squadrons tasked with air defense and ground attack. As newer types arrived, many Iranian F-5A/Bs were passed on to other nations including Greece, Turkey and Ethiopia.
