Model History and Information: South Vietnam's Republic of Vietnam Air Force began operating the Freedom Fighter in June 1967, when the US transferred the surviving aircraft of its Skoshi Tiger evaluation to the VNAF. The fleet, which included combat-modified airframes, was concentrated at Bien Hoa Air Base and expanded over the following years. This aircraft is presented in the markings of 522 Squadron, part of the 23rd Tactical Wing, which flew close air support and interdiction missions during the later years of the war. The compact, easy-to-maintain jet suited Vietnamese operations, though doctrine kept it largely in the strike role rather than air-to-air combat against northern MiGs. The named serial, unit, date and finish on this model identify the individual historical subject represented: F-5A Freedom Fighter 65-10524, 522 Sqn., South Vietnam AF, 1971 (1:72 Scale).
