Model History and Information: Taiwan operated the Northrop F-5 for roughly six decades, making the Republic of China Air Force one of the type's largest and longest-serving users. On 4 July 2025 the 5th Tactical Fighter Wing held a retirement ceremony at Hualien Air Base marking the end of F-5E/F and RF-5E operations. A final formation of reconnaissance jets and two-seat F-5F trainers flew along the island's east coast before receiving a water-cannon salute on return. This twin-seat F-5F wears commemorative farewell markings created for the occasion, closing more than fifty years of Tiger service that had trained generations of Taiwanese fighter pilots.
